The BC UltraTherm Jacket is the lightest insulated waterproof jacket we've ever made. Built for tough days while out hiking or climbing, it doesn't weigh you down while on the wall, and is warm enough for a long belay. Featuring our WeatherEdge® Pro waterproof tech, this jacket handles a strong downpour during a midday hike, and the 75g Primaloft® Evolve insulation delivers ultralight, breathable warmth in unpredictable conditions. Zip it on when the only thing needed more than a warm cup of camp-side coffee is a layer that can handle long, chilly mornings.

Models shown are 6'0" to 6'2" tall, wearing size M/32x32.

    Favorite piece of gear

Holy cow. I don't usually write reviews for jackets but this has got to be the best jacket I've ever owned. Absolute best warmth to weight ratio, it is a staple on all of my hikes and treks, either as a midlayer (so thin that it layers great) or as a windbreaker. It is so packable and I can easily put it in a running vest along with everything else I put in there. I came across it at an EB outlet as it was being discontinued and it is seriously incredible. The face fabric is pretty thin, so it has occasionally snagged on branches and stuff, but I love this jacket so much that I will continue to patch it up until it dies. Please bring this jacket back!

    Handled Alaska Easily
    Jul 13, 2023

So warm. So water proof. So comfortable. I've never reviewed a jacket before but this is hands down the best I've had for spending lots of time in the wild. Just completed a two week adventure in Alaska and this jacket was on me almost the entire time I was outside. And it's incredibly light! So easy to wear, carry or jam in the backpack. On the cruise portion of our trip, I got lots of looks when we were near glaciers. People were bundled up in many layers and I was just chilling in this jacket. Living the dream with it! Rum don't walk and pick one up soon!!

    beautiful and incredibly light
    Jul 6, 2023

This is incredibly light weight. I haven't had the chance to wear it in cold weather to test out the 75g Primaloft® Evolve insulation but assuming it works as well as they claim it does, this is a remarkable jacket considering how light weight it is.

Great jacket and warm for its weight. Easily packable. No pockets though or at least none that I could find.

The jacket is light and quite warm. I find the rain shell extremely good. The is the go to go rain jacket if you need warm and also travel light.

    Love this jacket
    Jul 1, 2023

I'd been wanting to buy this jacket for a long time but I hadn't been able to justify it with the array of other jackets I have. It just seemed that it would be redundant if I already had several down jackets (water and non-water proof) and other rain jackets. Boy was I wrong. My microtherms will still be the go to in dry cold weather, but the BC Ultratherm is now the go to in cold rain. I'm even considering giving it a shot in the snow over my BC downlight.

i am female boomer, my son teenager, bought one for each of us to use in iceland in june. worked great in rain, and on windy 35 deg cold beaches of iceland. he only used this on top of a long sleeve shirt and i wore this on top of my thin down eddie bauer jacket. it stopped the wind and it kept us both very warm. loved it. so thin, but has amazing warmth. please bring this back with zipper pockets for hands next time!!!! that be the only thing to make it superb. got it on clearance and it was the best purchase ever...so darn lighweight yet kept us so warm.

    Such a great purchase
    Apr 29, 2023

I absolutely love this jacket. It's lightweight for a rain coat and doesn't leave me too hot or sweaty under the typical fabric of leather coats that I've used in the past. The insulated layer is perfect for those cooler morning hikes, and with just a single layer underneath I don't feel weighed down. The zippers do seem to catch quite often, so just be cautious of that, but otherwise I'm extremely happy with this purchase!

Good Mid-Layer / Aerobic Outer for BC Skiing
    Apr 20, 2023

I bought this BC Ultratherm , hoping for a slightly warmer version of a similar product I own from another well-known manufacturer. This jacket falls into the same "warmth-range", with similar wind protection, with the difference being that itis more packable. Both work nicely for skinning in Colorado. The pack-ability comes with a compromise some may not like - smaller, thinner zippers which have a tendency to catch on the fabric. It's a minor annoyance, but worth mentioning. Arm movement is very free, and at 5'9" and 160 Lbs, I'd call it a 'loose' athletic fit. Extremely comfortable (more so than my other jacket). While this piece is a bit redundant with my other jacket, it's so comfortable, that it's a keeper. My general complaint about many of the Eddie Bauer mid/outer layers is the description of their temperature range. It's difficult to asses how heavy or light these products might be. One always has the option of returning or exchanging however, so I look at this as the cost of doing web/mail orders in general.

    Wierdly Worth the Money
    Feb 6, 2023

SECOND REVIEW, AFTER WEARING SEVERAL TIMES: This thin little rain jacket lists for a s much money as a full-blown parka, but when I was offered a "50% Off Anything" pre-holiday deal by the head of EB I decided to get adventurous and try this. Little did I know we'd not only have a solid month of heavy snow and freezing-to-sub-zero temperatures, but that this "flimsy" jacket would turn out to be the ultimate snow-shoveling shell. All I needed was one layer underneath, as long as I kept moving, and it didn't matter HOW cold it was. At freezing all I needed was a cotton T-shirt and at 20 below all I needed was a long-sleeved thermal top. Of course, my feet, legs, hands, and face still needed the customary bundling, but my arms and core were unburdened by heavy clothes and free to swing at any position. It was amazing, and like wearing a super-thin space suit on a frozen landscape. I still can't believe how efficient this jacket is, keeping me warm AND dry as snow fell from the branches and the wind blew drifts during the gnarliest shoveling. AND it remained unripped as low-bent rose bushes occasionally scraped my arms -- it's pretty tough, too. So ... I guess it was worth it, and a super-bargain at 50% off.

    A Minimal but Efficient "Jacket"
    Dec 6, 2022

This is more of a "technical rain cover" than a "jacket" in the sense that anyone generally wears a jacket, but it is very warm if you're being active and it sheds the moisture well. The hood is form-fitting so it actually works best over a helmet or cap so it's not such a face cocoon. It does fold down into a small-ish packable triangle (the chest pocket), so it's now a permanent part of the go bag.

This is quickly becoming my favorite jacket. The outer shell is crazy light and waterproof. The inner fleece is very soft and cozy feeling. The whole jacket weighs nearly nothing. But what sets it apart is that it looks great, the colors are cool and fit is good.

Lightweight Technical Outerwear at its Finest
    Apr 28, 2022

This is a truly revolutionary piece of technical outerwear. It weighs next to nothing and is surprising warm. The interior fleece that's against your skin can only be described as pet fur feeling, which is a good thing here, its very cozy. Did I mention it is waterproof? This jacket is a lightweight backpackers dream. I usually wear a Medium in EB but I sized up to a Large because it has a more technical fit and I don't like my outerwear to be skin tight. I'm 6'0 and 185lbs for reference and it fits slightly big which I like so I can layer a fleece underneath if its reaallly cold out. This jacket has earned a spot in my backpacking kit

    Very Warm and Very Lightweight

Very lightweight jacket, I will be using it for biking to school. It is also waterproof so it will be doubling down as a rain jacket. Only problem is zipper is a bit stiff and gets stuck halfway through.

    Nice piece of kit!
    Dec 6, 2022

Just received. I am 6' and 168lbs. I tend to like my gear fitted and usually go small with EB given their standard cuts. I went small and probably could have gone medium for those deciding on size. Agree with other comments, very light, cozy, haven't had it out in the field yet but given it's the Ascent line I am fully confident it will deliver. Like other reviewer, pockets would be a nice add, but I get that this is geared toward the technical functionality. So far happy with purchase.

Impressive Capabilities & Weight but noisy and needs pockets
    Nov 28, 2022

I purchased this jacket to be my go-to for world travel and backpacking, desiring something that I could pack in any bag while also doubling as a fully competant rain coat and a piece that I could take on windy, chilly fall/winter days without issue. It's nearly perfect, with a few improvements needed here and there to be truly excellent. 1. It's Undoubtedly Warm This jacket is amazingly warm while feeling like nothing more than a windbreaker. The Primaloft Evolve fleece lining is exceptionally thin while providing a true blanket of warmth. I have worn it with just a t-shirt on while walking around at 32* F without issue. THE CAVEAT: This jacket desperately needs hand pockets beyond that of the breast pocket/stuff sack. Yes, it's designed for time in the mountains and you will likely always have the proper gloves/liners etc. if you're on an expedition, but adding two zippers and a few more squares of fleece would absolutely be worth the tradeoff in additional weight. Otherwise you have no spot to stash items on the fly or to throw your hands in when foregoing gloves. 2. It's Undoubtedly Waterproof The WeatherEdge Pro membrane is an extremely impressive material. It's semi-translucent with exceptional flexibility (I can't quite speak for durability yet) and weight savings. I've been out in two rainstorms already completely dry + blocked from any wind. THE CAVEAT: Unlike most hard shell raincoast, this material is extremely swishy/noisy. It is noticeable when walking with it, and it does not dress up well enough to be ignored as a matte black jacket. Like above, this is not an issue on a hike or an expedition, but it's definitely something to be mindful of. Black out the logo, add some pockets, somehow make this material quieter (or throw some earplugs in), and it will be perfect.

Really disappointed with Eddie Bauer on this product. Inside layer extremely cheap and easily snags. No pockets and very difficult to slide arms into sleeves when wearing long sleeve shirts. Not warm as described. It is packable and extremely light. Unfortunately though the quality of the product was missed by a lot.
